Do the Antibiotics Work?
This is where it gets tricky, because there is no definite "Yes" or "No" answer. Angular cheilitis can be caused by either bacteria or fungus or both. If you angular cheilitis is bacterial based, then the antibiotics will help in the healing process. However, if the angular cheilitis is fungal based, then the antibiotics will do nothing to help.
Since angular cheilitis is usually caused by a combination of bacteria and fungus, antibiotics will generally not fully treat the illness. Because of this it is not recommended to use antibiotics to treat angular cheilitis.
